Students have been working hard to prepare for the "B.A.S.E. Spectacular". We have been working on our skit as well as creating a huge banner to hang up on stage.
Students learned how to sew and bind their own sketchbooks or journals. They used collage techniques to customize and personalize the covers. These books will be used for writing, drawing, etc. This is in addition to the "hidden room" style books and origami style books they created earlier in the school year.
Students explored the art of reusing for this project. In celebration of Earth Day, students explored creating non-textile fashion. Materials included recyclables such as newspaper, plastic, styrofoam, and more. Students viewed examples from the hit reality show Project Runway and the work of fashion designers who studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. See below!
From belts, to baseball caps, shirts and glasses, students thought "outside of the box" and showed great creativity. On Friday April 15 Students spent the afternoon cleaning up outside of Hollis Elementary School. The basketball court, fields, and gravel area are used by both the students are Hollis School and B.A.S.E as well as visitors that come for softball, baseball and football. The Older Kids at B.A.S.E. were fed up of finding empty bottles, plastic bags, and other trash items outside so they took matters into their own hands.
Students worked diligently on the sections of these portraits, and when the final complete portrait came together (it was like putting a puzzle together!) we were all so excited!
Here is country star Taylor Swift and Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon! Students explored the photographic paintings of contemporary American artist Chuck Close. Despite suffering a spinal artery collapse that left him paralyzed in 1988, Close perseveres and continues to paint and produce portraits of incredible realism. He also suffers from a neurological disorder that prevents him from recognizing faces. Chuck Close is an inspiration to us all. Students voted to paint a portrait of Taylor Swift and Shaquille O'Neal in the style of Close, who created grids over photographs of people in order to create a larger version. He paints each portrait cell by cell. We created a grid over these photographs, and each student received a cell or pixel of the image to paint. Pictured here is the portrait of Taylor Swift in progress!
Students explored the use of texture in art and created mixed media landscapes and nature scenes using real tree branches, cotton, yarn, various fabrics, tissue paper and sand paper. Students participates in a smell test of 9 spices. Clues were given and students guessed based on color, texture, and most importantly, the SMELL of each spice.During the month of March we are focusing on the Five Senses. For this particular project, we explored sight. Students learned about art techniques to create the illusion of depth and three dimensional space in these 2-point Perspective drawings. We also created optical illusion designs using line, shape and value.
During our Art History club, students learned about the art movement Impressionism and artists like Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro. Students created scenes from nature, real or imaginary, using the Impressionist bruchs
