Each week students at Hollis B.A.S.E are introduced to new and exciting themes. Mr. Kevin and Ms. Mia announced that students would be studying the continent of Africa for the next few weeks. Students started by charting out a brainstorm that addressed what students have learned in the past about Africa and what questions they would like to explore through research on Africa. The Hollis B.A.S.E students were very thoughtful and inquisitive about the current state of Africa. Some questions that were posed were: How are schools ran in Africa? What does the political structure look like in Africa? What is the connection between African dance, music and religion?Does clothing define your culture/status in Africa? What are the modes of transportation used in Africa? Does Africa have one flag that represents the whole continent? The list continued to grow as students started to think critically about the similarities and differences in American lifestyles and traditions vs. African lifestyles and traditions.
